hello there!

About Common Quails

Common Quails is a slice-of-life comic that follows a group of round, feathered quails as they go through everyday moments—some funny, some quiet, and some just a little odd.

It began after I spent a year living on a farm, where I fell in love with a group of Coturnix quails aka common quails—plain little birds with round brown feathers and funny sounds that made me smile every day. When I moved to Portland, I missed them more than I expected. So I started drawing them—first as a way to hold onto those memories, and eventually as a comic I now share online. What started with a single quail egg has grown into a small world of characters and stories that explore life’s awkward, tender, and relatable moments.

I make Common Quails to offer a small pause in someone’s day—a moment to slow down, smile, and feel a bit of the peace I felt sitting quietly with quails.

About Sean Oh

Hi, I’m Sean—an illustrator and writer from Korea, currently based in Portland, Oregon. I care deeply about storytelling, and I’m always looking for ways to connect with people through images and words.

I studied illustration in school, but most of what I’ve learned has come from making things—books, comics, and visual work that speaks in a thoughtful way. I’m drawn to stories that hold a bit of warmth and humor, and I often find myself returning to themes like childhood, animals, and everyday moments.

My style leans bold and expressive, shaped by a love for character, color, and simplicity. What matters most to me is making work that feels honest—and that stays with someone, even just a little.
